The island of Socotra, which lies off the coast of Yemen in the northwestern Indian Ocean, hosts plants that are not found elsewhere. 30% of the vegetation consists of trees and very strange flowers, which earned the island nickname “alien”. The island is also on the World Heritage List of Unesco.
