If you are a biology student or an amateur scientist or a biology passionate, you would often require using microscope in the lab. Well, you can now have your own microscope by turning your iPhone into one for $115 only. It can even fit in your pocket and you can carry with you like an iPhone to study the nature
MicrobeScope is a portable microscope designed by the Washington based startup 4D Optical. It has a fixed magnification of 800x and fits like a stand with your iPhone. However, this microscope has some limitations when we compare it with the regular lab microscope. First of all, it does not use the glass slide, rather it has to be placed directly placed over the object to be studied. Two AAA batteries are used to power the LED light source of the microscope. As the microscope is fixed magnification, hence it lacks any knobs for adjustment. The camera of the iPhone needs to be aligned with the microscope eyepiece. We can conclude that it cannot be used as a regular microscope in lab but amateurs can use it to make the videos of algae, bacteria or other microbes etc.
