In our daily life we see the plastic everywhere and it is polluting our planet. To curb this problem, a team of designers has developed a new way to drink the water. Instead of using the plastic bottle, replace it with a water blob which is surrounded by ultra-thin edible membrane. We explain this incredible invention.
How to do without plastic in our lives? A team of three London based designers, two of whom are French, has found a solution by completely reinventing the concept of the water bottle. The three friends have created a new form and a new way of drinking water: it is a blob of water, named as Ooho.

They have based their method of creating blob on the cooking methods of molecular gastronomy and other processes such as spherification, a technique that consists of giving any spherical form to food by freezing. Here the water is surrounded by a thin membrane composed of edible brown seaweed and calcium chloride. Rodrigo García González explains: “This double membrane provides hygienic protection within the membrane and is capable isolating the water without using any adhesive. “

While a protective membrane is formed, the water is placed in a frozen state to give it a spherical shape. Then the substance to form the membrane can be applied. The idea is to have an environmentally friendly alternative to bottled water which is both easy (just buy the ingredients and equipment for making it) and cheap because the cost is less than €5!
