Thierry Cohen is a brilliant self made photographer. He started his profession of photography in 1985 and is presently known as a pioneer of digital photography. In 2010, when he was staying and working in Paris, he struggled to discover “extinct cities”, a series that presents the biggest city in the world as they would be visible at night as if there is only star light in the absence of electricity.
In this series of photos, the artist has presented the landscape view of big urban cities like New York, Sao Paulo, Shanghai or Paris at night, only illuminated by stars. The photographer has gone through the deserts of Asia, South America and Africa to capture the sky similar to the latitude of these cities. Finally, he retouched his photos to show how these big cities will look like in real world, without light pollution of artificial lights due to which we are unable to view this hidden beauty of the sky.
