Is a car made almost exclusively of wood impossible? And yet, named as “Toyota Setsuna”, this car was designed for generations to come. Not to drive, but as an artistic heritage. We present this incredible design to you.
Toyota Setsuna is made almost entirely of Japanese cedar and birch wood. It was designed using traditional Japanese techniques, without nails or screws. The designers say it: the Setsuna is more a work of art than a car.
And Toyota designed this object as a work that can be passed on from generation to generation, a kind of family heritage. “A family spends time together, they can accumulate experiences with this car, which will be cared for with love and passed on to the next generation. This car will acquire a new kind of value that only the members of this family will be able to appreciate”, explains the company.
Toyota notes that the characteristics of wood change over time, depending on the temperature and humidity to which it is exposed and on the care taken. The idea would be that the personalities of the owners of the Setsuna will change at the same time as the car.
If the idea seems a little silly, the concept of car as a family inheritance is not new one, if we consider the large place of the car market in our consumer society, and its constant evolution.
The idea is very original! We do not know what this car is worth in practice, but one thing is certain: its aesthetics are as splendid as it is original!
